Kaylee and Elise with Nana and Grandpa!

Dana Hanson is married to bride Nancy (for 31 years) and they are the parents of Kristina Herman (Sean), and twins David and Gregory. Dana and Nancy are also joy-filled grandparents of Kaylee an Elise! Dana’s interests include hiking Half Dome, snorkeling in Maui, weight training to combat his twins’ double teaming him, golf, the Green Bay Packers, and Italian Contemplative Prayer Methods of the 14th Century (not really, but sounds all “emergent” and holy!)

Dana is senior pastor of LIFEhouse Church in LA (Northridge). The congregation comes out of the Lutheran tradition (ELCA). Dana has over 35 years experience of outreach and training in an urban setting, working out of a local congregation the whole time. His ministry with Jewish and Muslim friends, prison ministry, LAPD, and working on local public high school (currently public high school boy’s varsity basketball coach), college campuses, and coaching pastors through the 3DM network,  makes for an interesting mix of opportunities. Since 2001, Dana was personally mentored by Christian thinker and author, Dallas Willard.

Dallas endorsed Dana’s DVD series, “How To Be A Christian Without Being A Jerk!” This series is recorded live at Oasis Christian Center, Hollywood CA.

“I strongly recommend this series to anyone who is trying to find their way to or with Jesus Christ through today’s multi-leveled confusions and mistakes about being a Christian. With intelligence and compassion, Dana Hanson helps us through barriers to real life companionship with Jesus in the Kingdom of God now and right where we are.”

Dana’s latest book is “Reboot: 70 Life Lessons with Dallas Willard” by Good Son Publishers available here.

Dana’s DNA? Strong emphasis on the Holy Spirit with a definite prophetic lean and a careful, straightforward reading of Scripture combined with a joy-starting lifestyle that Dana calls “sharing the compassion of Jesus with everyone, and sharing the gospel with those who are receptive.” So, I guess you could call him a member of the “Evancostal Lutheran” tribe.

Loving your neighbor by blessing the city brings Dana and those he is leading (75% white and most middle/upper middle class) into increased connection with their neighbors, in particular Hispanic, many poor and and first generation. The Holy Spirit is having a good time building some incredible bridges in the midst of  all of this. tag: Urban, Cross-Cultural, Apologetics, Evangelism, Youth, The Person of the Holy Spirit, Dallas Willard, no jerk Christian…

I like what you have to say Dana! I appreciate this description of your missional approach, “sharing the compassion of Christ with everyone, and the Gospel with those who are receptive. ” That to me is the essence of the “not being a jerk” about it!
