psalm 150

December 27th, 2008

psalm 150

1 Praise the Lord!

Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heaven!
2 Praise him for his mighty works;
praise his unequaled greatness!
3 Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn;
praise him with the lyre and harp!
4 Praise him with the tambourine and dancing;
praise him with strings and flutes!
5 Praise him with a clash of cymbals;
praise him with loud clanging cymbals.
6 Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord!

Praise the Lord!

The last psalm puts an exclamation point on a key insight about God. He likes it loud.

z is for zoo

December 25th, 2008

Zoo- Cows, sheep, camels, a donkey and doves. That’s my manger scene. Actually the Bible doesn’t mention any animals being there. I don’t care. He is their Savior, too (Isaiah 11:6), so I will keep them.

Y is for Yule log

December 24th, 2008

Yule log- No fireplaces allowed in new homes in LA. Lucky we have an old house with a fireplace where a yule log will be burning Christmas Eve. I’ll ride my bike to work for a couple of days to offset.

Have a blessed Christmas!

psalm148:9

December 24th, 2008

All of creation praises the LORD, according to this psalm. It seems that the spiritual connections of the natural world are not so far fetched after all. Who knew the Bible could be so “hip?”

X is for X-mas

December 23rd, 2008

X-mas- Breaking through the space/ time continuum and bringing hope in a universe declining in entropy, Christ will come again and make all things new. Deserves a bit more than an “X,” don’t you think?

psalm 147:5

December 23rd, 2008

The existence of God is not a neutral topic. So much of what passes for knowledge in the Western Enlightenment mindset for the last 200 years, that permeates the university and the public square, requires  disbelief or silence on the existence of God, or else what is being held as the truth by the “lords of knowledge” is wrong.

psalm 146:9

December 22nd, 2008

We want to find ourselves caring for those God protects. The foreigner in our midst and others who are most vulnerable. How we do this is, of course, the great debate of our political era. “If” we do it is not in question.

W is for Wenceslaus

December 22nd, 2008

Wenceslaus- “Good King Wenceslaus” is one my favorite Christmas carols though it has nothing to do with Christmas. This influential King of Bohemia has a great story. Look it up online. I like the song because it is only one of two Christmas songs I can plink on the piano with one finger…
